I'm Cary Craycroft, an ISA Certified Arborist, TRAQ-certified risk assessor, and ISA Municipal Arborist based in the Louisville area with deep roots in the horticultural community. I started Yellowwood Consulting because I believe trees deserve more than a quick estimate, they deserve someone who understands them.
Yellowwood Consulting is a consulting-only practice, which means my only interest is giving you honest, expert advice. I don't sell removals or push unnecessary work. I help you understand what your trees need and make a plan that serves them long term to where you can be confident in your decisions that affect trees on your property.

Tree Health Consultation & Management Plan
A thorough on-site assessment of your property’s trees including species identification, health evaluation, and structural observations. You’ll receive a professional written report with a prioritized management plan tailored specifically to your landscape, giving you a clear picture of what your trees need now and in the years ahead.
Tree Risk Assessment (TRAQ)
A formal, documented risk assessment constructed using ISA’s TRAQ methodology by a certified risk assessor. This service produces a written report detailing structural defects, likelihood of failure, and risk rating as well as risk mitigation options, used for liability documentation, insurance purposes, HOA requirements, and informed tree management decisions. One of very few credentialed TRAQ assessors serving the Louisville Metro area.
Pre-Purchase Tree Inspection
Before you close on a property, know exactly what you’re inheriting. A professional arborist assessment of all significant trees identifies health concerns, structural defects, pest and disease issues, and any trees that require costly attention after closing. A smart investment that gives you negotiating power and peace of mind before signing on the dotted line.
Tree Health Services
Beyond Consultation, Yellowwood Consulting offers hands-on ground-based tree care focused on the fundamentals that make the biggest difference in long-term tree health.
Services include structural pruning to ANSI A300 standards, proper mulch ring installation, vertical mulching for root zone improvement, minor deadwood removal, and corrective planting adjustments for newly established trees. All work is performed from the ground without climbing.
These aren’t glamorous services, but they’re the ones that extend the life of your trees by decades. Often the difference between a tree that thrives and one that slowly declines is as simple as getting the basics right.

Emerald Ash Borer Assessment & Treatment
Emerald Ash Borer (EAB) has devastated ash tree populations across the Louisville Metro Area, and the window to save a declining tree closes faster than most homeowners realize. Yellowwood Consulting provides a complete EAB service from initial assessment through treatment and follow-up monitoring.
Every engagement begins with a thorough evaluation to determine whether your ash tree is a viable candidate for treatment or has passed the point of no return. This honest assessment alone saves clients from spending money on trees that cannot be saved.
For trees worth protecting, treatment options include systemic trunk injection of emamectin benzoate (Trade name - Mectinite) the most effective EAB treatment available, proven by university research to provide up to two years of protection. As a Kentucky licensed pesticide applicator and ISA certified arborist and years of experience in EAB treatment, I have access to professional grade products and application methods not available to homeowners.

Tree Planting & Establishment Care
Planting a tree correctly is one of the most important investments you can make in your landscape, and one of the most commonly done wrong. Improper planting depth, poor species selection, and inadequate establishment care are the leading causes of early tree failure.
Yellowwood Consulting offers professional planting consultation and oversight to give your new trees the best possible start. Services include site evaluation, species selection for your specific conditions, proper planting specification and plant selection at the nursery, and on-site supervision to ensure correct depth, backfill, and initial care.
Following planting, establishment care visits in the first one to three years monitor root development, correct staking issues, mulch ring adjustment, and identify early stress before it becomes a serious problem. Most trees that fail do so in the first three years, proper establishment care dramatically improves long-term survival.
